What is the real reason you are not changing careers?

Welcome To The Truth Factor

Is something holding you back from doing something you want or saying yes to something you want?

Do you hear yourself saying to others…

“yeah, I would like that …. BUT”

“If it wasn’t for XYZ then I would do that”

“You don’t understand, I can’t change because of XYZ”

“Not everybody has the same opportunities as you (insert friends name)”

“If I was younger then I would change”

“How will I know if it will work out”

“What if I don’t have the right finances”

“I don’t want to start all over again”

What typically stands in our way of making a change is a fear, mindset block(s), and or a lack of self-attribute.

Fear of the unknown

Fear of failure

Fear of starting over again

Fear of regret

Fear of judgment

Fear of change

Security keeping you safe

Comfort zone

Habits

Lack of confidence

Lack of self-worth

Lack of self-belief

And for some lack of knowledge or the tools/resources or experience can be an obstacle.

Our minds are wonderful at playing the role we need to live great, but they are also wonderful at tricking us at times too.

For example, you may be telling yourself that if it wasn’t for XYZ I would change, but when we really look at what this means normally this is a mask for something else.  When you can find the truth in what it is you think is preventing you from change then resolving it becomes so much easier.

How the Truth Factor works is you literally are going to be your own truth lawyer/investigator.  You are going to be challenging your own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to see what is true and what is fiction.

This is a great one that ties into your beliefs and has great power to keep us stuck where we are and equally great power to move the needle for you to see what is true and move forward from there.

Also, you can also use it when needing to change your view – your perspective on something – it goes hand in hand.

If I say to you, oh there is no sun today, my day is now ruined.

You will be assuming that because there is no sunshine this is making my day bad.

When the fact of this sentence is; that there is sunshine, however clouds are covering it.  The complete rest of the sentence - no sunshine is causing me a bad day, is fiction, it is simply a story I am telling myself.

Another example of fact and fiction.

I have been doing this job for 10 years, it is all I know, I do not know how to do anything else, no one new would employ me!

Wow-what a statement right.

The fact in this statement is the beginning – you have been doing this job for 10 years – complete fact!  The rest of it is all fiction, all stories you are telling yourself because of beliefs you are currently living from.

Even though you have been doing this job for 10 years does not mean it is all you know, and that you do not know how to do anything else and no one knew would employ you.  Absolutely not.

You are choosing to believe this to be true when in fact it is not.

Look at what you are saying, look at what you are expressing to others and yourself – yes communication, it is vital because if you are telling the ‘wrong’ story then you will not get anywhere you want to be going.  Look and see what fact is and what is fiction.

Generally, the fiction is all fear-based – it is stories we say to keep us safe and typically this keeps us in a comfort zone which means change & growth do not eventuate.

TRUTH FACTOR QUESTIONS

Is (enter statement, thought, etc..) factual?  100% factual for the reason why I am not making the change I need to have what I want?

If you answer yes, what is the evidence you have for it? Not a thought or feeling, but actual evidence that it is true?

If you say no, what part of it is true and what part is not?  Then for the part which is fiction – ask yourself why is this thought/feeling/idea/belief strong for you?  Why does it matter?

Then keeping ask yourself this question “why does that matter” again and again until you drill down to the real issue.  Understanding why something matters fully means you move from your head to your heart – this is where what is the truth vs what is not lives.

An example of doing the above

Ø  Is “How will I know if it will work out” saying factual?

o   No, it is not factual, it is just something I keep thinking as I feel worried and uncertain that what if it doesn’t work out, then what will I do.  I will have left the comfort of where I am, even though it is not where I want to be, but I won’t know what is going on.

Ø  Why is not knowing what is going on matter so much to me?

o   Well, I have always lived my life in full control, I have always known that doing this, will give that, and knowing I want to change careers seems like a massive step into the unknown universe and that is freaking me out.

Ø  Why does being in control matter so much to you?

o   Well, I then know nothing could go wrong, I will feel safer, I will have all the risks outlined before, and I will know the pros and cons of it all

Ø  Why does feeling safe matter so much to you?

o   Then I feel grounded, and I feel more peace and joy

Ø  What can you think of right now that can help bring you more peace and joy when it comes to thinking of changing careers?

o   If I can see what the changing careers actually looks like before changing then this will help me feel grounded and more in control as I will be able to see the process before saying I quit to my boss and not knowing what is next

Ok, so if you look at the above example and see how it was all broken down it then becomes much lighter and much easier to find ways to navigate thru.

Now it is your turn to try.

Send me a message on Facebook and let me know how you went.  I would love to see your result from this exercise.

Until next time,

Love + Sunshine
